Revenant à un de ses premiers travaux universitaires (resté inédit à ce jour) Andréi Nakov présentera à Varsovie le 19 septembre un résumé de sa thèse de doctorat, soutenue à la Sorbonne (Paris), le 3 juillet 1969. Intitulé « La nymphe couchée, un thème humaniste de la Renaissance vénitienne » ce travail était consacré au cercle de Caterina Cornaro à Asolo, à l’humaniste, cardinal Pietro Bembo, et en particulier à Giorgione et à sa relation avec epos lyrique de Francesco Colona, Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, (Le songe de Poliphile, Venise 1499).
Précédée de quelques réminiscences de l’enseignement d’histoire de l’art dont A. Nakov a bénéficié entre 1959 et 1963 à l’Université de Varsovie, cette intervention s’inscrit dans une journée commémorative dédiée à Jan Bialostocki (1921-1988) historien de l’art de renommée mondiale qui fut son professeur à l’époque. L’intervention d’A. Nakov fait partie d’une session organisée par l’Université « Stefan Wyszynski » de Varsovie. Y participeront des historiens de l’art polonais et italien dont Stefan Michalski (Université de Tübingen), Juliusz Chroscicki (Universités de Cracovie et de Varsovie), Gian Carlo Sciola (Université de Gênes) et autres.

Some recollections of a Warsaw student and an iconological follow-up at the Paris Sorbonne
Brief summary :
In 1969 I presented at the Sorbonne in Paris a doctoral dissertation in art history, titled La nymphe couchée (director of research prof. André Chastel).
The subject of this dissertation is related to an iconological approach of the Sleeping Venus of Giorgione, ca 1510 (Gemäldegalerie, Dresden), its humanistic background (Bembo, the circle of Catarina Cornaro at Asolo, Francesco Colona’s Hypnerotomachia Poliphili of 1499) but also its figurative precedents and the follow-up of what I defined as an “iconological stereotype”.
Contrary to traditional iconology which privileges the priority of the text, my approach concentrated on the priority of the strictly formal aspect of a subject from which a number of variations could be inspired. I deducted that there are images which function as formal stereotypes.
Further on I studied the force of autonomous “image-forms” in XX century art –Manet, Picasso, Dubuffet and other- and finished my demonstration with some provocative images – like the very shocking “Hitler-Venus” of 1935 by the Swiss artist Willy Varlin.
