J\u2019ai consid\u00e9r\u00e9 que ce texte qui fournit des d\u00e9tails techniques destin\u00e9s plut\u00f4t aux lecteurs professionnellement pr\u00e9par\u00e9s serait n\u00e9anmoins aussi utile \u00e0 tout lecteur int\u00e9ress\u00e9 par la peinture de Malewicz et non seulement par ses id\u00e9es, car, dans ce texte, j\u2019ai essay\u00e9 de mettre en valeur la nature lyrique de la d\u00e9marche picturale de l\u2019artiste, ceci ouvrant, d\u2019apr\u00e8s moi, l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la v\u00e9ritable nature expressive du supr\u00e9matisme.<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9daction de ce texte, initialement destin\u00e9 au <b><i>Catalogue raisonn\u00e9<\/i><\/b> de 2002 m\u2019a conduit \u00e0 prendre des d\u00e9cisions difficiles quant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tendue de d\u00e9tails techniques concernant la pratique du peintre (les faussaires ne dorment pas\u00a0!).<\/p>\n<p>Je fus grandement r\u00e9compens\u00e9 quand apr\u00e8s sa publication en langue fran\u00e7aise ce texte attira sans tarder l\u2019attention des sp\u00e9cialistes de l\u2019art ancien. Ainsi l\u2019anthologie <i>Artibus et Historiae<\/i>, une revue scientifique, sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e surtout dans l\u2019\u00e9tude de l\u2019art ancien, me demanda de le publier en langue anglaise (cf. \u00ab&nbsp;Devices, Style and Realisation&nbsp;: Professionalism in Malewicz\u2019s Painting Technique&nbsp;\u00bb\u00a0 in <i>Artibus et Historiae<\/i>,\u00a0 n\u00b0 57, vol.\u00a0 XXIX,\u00a0 Vienna-Cracow, 2008, p. 183-239\u00a0 trad. corrig\u00e9e du chap. 31 de<i> Kazimir Malewicz. Le peintre absolu<\/i>, Paris, 2007, vol. IV). Cette publication m\u2019a d\u2019ailleurs permis de corriger certaines inexactitudes de la premi\u00e8re version du texte qui ainsi put para\u00eetre am\u00e9lior\u00e9 dans l\u2019\u00e9dition anglaise de 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Des discussions avec des professionnels \u2013 conservateurs de mus\u00e9e ou restaurateurs, et \u00a0en particulier avec Mesdames Wijnberg du Stedelijk Museum d\u2019Amsterdam et Klenova de Saint Petersbourg \u2013 m\u2019ont par la suite r\u00e9confort\u00e9 quant au bien-fond\u00e9 de cette publication et de la justesse de l\u2019approche m\u00e9thodologique que je mettais clairement en avant. Cela faisait aussi des ann\u00e9es que je souhaitais voir les tableaux d\u2019Amsterdam restaur\u00e9s ce qui fut finalement commenc\u00e9e \u00e0 la suite de l\u2019exposition de 1989\u00a0 et s\u2019est termin\u00e9 tout r\u00e9cemment. \u00c0 ce moment seulement on a pu voir\u00a0 la justesse des arguments qui se trouvaient \u00e0 la base de mes opinions.<\/p>\n<p>Le sujet me tenait d\u2019autant plus \u00e0 c\u0153ur que dans le pass\u00e9 je me suis parfois trouv\u00e9 en d\u00e9saccord avec d\u2019autres opinions concernant l\u2019attribution de certaines \u0153uvres, fort rares il est vrai,\u00a0 dont je n\u2019ai pas h\u00e9sit\u00e9 \u00e0 confirmer la paternit\u00e9 \u00e0 la main de Malewicz et non moins d\u2019autres que je rel\u00e9guais non moins formellement.<\/p>\n<p>Tout r\u00e9cemment la revue anglaise ARTWATCH UK consacrait sous la plume d\u2019Alexander Adams (cf. son \u00ab\u00a0Malevich Restorations Questionned\u00a0\u00bb n\u00b0 28, Winter 2012 p.19) un compte-rendu fort positif du chapitre 31 de mon <b><i>Malevich, painting the absolute<\/i><\/b>, London 2010. Ce commentaire me conforte quant au bien-fond\u00e9 de la partie m\u00e9thodologique concernant l\u2019aspect \u00ab\u00a0connoisseurship\u00a0\u00bb de mon travail.<\/p>\n<p>Extraits du texte d\u2019Alexander Adams&nbsp;:<br \/>\n <em>In the recently published Malevich: Painting the Absolute (Lund Humphries, November 2010) Andrei Nakov has presented informa\u00adtion about various restorations of oil paintings by Malevich, data which Nakov came across in the course of compiling a catalogue raisonn\u00e9 of the artist&#8217;s work. He discusses at length cer\u00adtain restorations of Malevich&#8217;s Suprematist oil-on-canvas paintings. A cache of significant work is at Amsterdam&#8217;s Stedelijk Museum. Nakov comments: &#171;The first restoration carried out in Holland in 1957 by Lo van Beek and Chris van Noorst first of all involved the relining of the work, which at the time was considered absolutely indis\u00adpensable for the safeguard[ing] of paintings that had been through the war.<br \/>\n [&#8230;]\n <\/em><em>As the Richardson-Keck contro\u00adversy over the varnishing of Cubist paintings (see <a href=\"http:\/\/artwatchuk.wordpress.com\">http:\/\/artwatchuk. wordpress.com\/2011\/01\/08\/8th-janu\u00adary-2011\/<\/a>) demonstrates, art historians often have broad knowledge of an artist or a movement in a way that conserva\u00adtors might not.
